NYC screening of The End of the Line

SPECIAL EVENT:

THE NEW YORK TRANSIT MUSEUM PRESENTS
THE STORY OF THE ROCHESTER SUBWAY

Join filmmakers Fredrick Armstrong and James P. Harte at the New York Transit Museum in Brooklyn on Saturday, May 6 at 1:30 p.m. There they will be presenting their Telly award winning documentary, The End of The Line - Rochester's Subway, as well as two featurettes from the DVD release.

THE END OF THE LINE focuses on the story of the smallest city in America to build, and abandon, a subway. Service on the Rochester, New York subway began on December 1, 1927 and ended in June 1956.

PRODIGAL SON presents the stories of that subway's only surviving passenger car, and one of the last men to operate it.

MOTHERLESS CHILD is a final salute to the subway's abandoned tunnel and includes a "PHANTOM RUN" through this mile-long underground stretch.

A question-and-answer session with the filmmakers will follow the screening.

Directions to the Museum:
The New York Transit Museum is located at the corner of Boerum and Schermerhorn Street, Brooklyn Heights. On weekends, local subways are the 2, 3, 4 to Borough Hall; R to Court Street; A, C, G to Hoyt-Schermerhorn; A, C, F to Jay Street/Borough Hall. By bus, B25, B26, B37, B38, B41, B45, B52, B57, B61, B65, B67, B75 - all stop within 1 to 2 blocks from the Museum. By car, the Transit Museum is just five blocks from the Brooklyn Bridge. Take the Brooklyn Bridge and proceed straight on Adams Street; Adams Street will become Boerum Place. You will then go two blocks to Schermerhorn Street.

Just a note - as there is work planned on the 4 line through the Fall, the line terminates at weekends at Brooklyn Bridge. So if you will be coming from Manhattan, we suggest you plan to take Westside trains - or if you are closest to the east side you can take the 4 to Brooklyn Bridge and then just hop on the J train to Court Street, which leaves you very close to us. Other plans for rerouted service are often available on a recorded message at 718-330-1234.

CARTOONED CLASSICS at the RPO

This past Saturday, we were pleased to be involved with the Rochester Philharmonic's presentation of CARTOONED CLASSICS. It was an afternoon of classical pieces made famous (at least to us) through their use in cartoons. Conductor Michael Butterman was gracious enough to invite our fearless leader, Fred Armstrong, to speak about the process of animation and the use of music in cartoons from the golden age. There was also a quiz to test the animation knowledge of the audience.

We'd like to thank everyone at the RPO for the wonderful experience.

After a close-up study of decay, the viewer is taken on a phantom ride through a vacant tunnel where the now-abandoned Rochester, NY subway once ran. A lone piano and the resurrected sounds of the subway accompany the ride. (Color, 9 min)

In this workshop, we’ll be building on the basics of the Flash program (buttons, sounds, and animation tweening) to create an interactive self-contained website for each student.

Students can create menus and set up personalized pages about topics of their choice. Following this workshop session, students will receive a data CD of their work. Their work can be viewed from the CD or transferred to a computer hard drive.
